Update: Some thoughts on the implications of the new fragments

Pierre Hadot spent forty years meditating upon a three word expression attributed to Heraclitus, ultimately producing a book, The Veil of Isis, that in English translation is over three hundred pages.

H. S. Versnel, commenting on the years it took him to write his book Coping with the Gods, quotes with approval Nietzsche's observation that "Only late does it dawn on one what we have from the Greeks . . . only after we have pondered much."

And then there is A. H. Coxon, who devoted his entire scholarly life to studying and writing about the fragments of Parmenides.

What has been learned from Sappho in just the past few months may take years to appreciate.
